Frequently Asked Questions
What is Random Reminders?
Random Reminders is a personal wisdom companion that resurfaces your saved quotes, principles, and reflections through randomized push notifications. You collect meaningful ideas (from books, podcasts, conversations, or the in-app Discover library), and the app sends them back to you as surprise notifications throughout your day — so wisdom you've saved doesn't just sit in a notes app and get forgotten.
Do I need to create an account to use the app?
No. The app starts with an anonymous session and lands directly on your My Reminders tab. You can add reminders, journal, and browse the Discover library immediately. An account is required to remove ads (Ad-free purchase), exceed the 50-reminder limit (Plus), or sync across devices (Plus).
What are the three scheduling modes?
Each reminder has its own schedule type:
- Random: The reminder is drawn from your pool at random times, weighted toward reminders you haven't seen recently.
- Spaced Repetition: Uses an SM-2 variant algorithm. The first reminder appears 1 day after saving, then 3 days, then approximately 7 days — intervals increase as you engage with it. Best for principles you want to internalize deeply.
- Once-a-Year: The reminder appears on the anniversary of the date you saved it. Ideal for milestone reflections, yearly intentions, or quotes tied to a specific life moment.
You can change a reminder's schedule type at any time from its detail or edit screen.
How many reminders per day can I receive?
You control this in Profile → Notification Settings. Choose 1, 3, 5, or 10 notifications per day. The default is 3. You can also set quiet hours to prevent notifications during times you don't want to be disturbed (by default, notifications only fire between 8am and 9pm).
What is the Discover library?
The Discover tab contains 100+ editorially curated quotes and principles organized by category. Tap "Save to My Reminders" on any item and it immediately joins your personal collection and notification rotation. Saved items appear with a "Curated" label in My Reminders so you can distinguish them from reminders you created yourself.
What is the Community tab?
The Community tab shows reminders submitted by other users, sorted by trending (recent upvotes), top (all-time upvotes), or newest. You can upvote items that resonate with you (tap again to un-upvote), save them to your personal collection, and submit your own reminders for others to discover. Submitting to Community requires an account. You can flag inappropriate content using the flag button on any community item.
What is the Journal?
The Journal tab shows a chronological timeline of reflections you've written after receiving a reminder. When a notification arrives and you tap it, the reminder detail screen has a "Reflect" button that opens a journal entry form. You write a free-text reflection and optionally rate it 1-5 stars (resonance rating) to track which reminders matter most to you over time. You can filter your journal by category.
What is the Free tier's 50-reminder limit?
Free accounts can hold up to 50 personal reminders. When you try to add the 51st, the app shows an upgrade prompt. Upgrading to Plus removes the limit entirely. Seed reminders (the 20+ pre-loaded starter reminders) count toward this limit until you delete them.
What does the Plus subscription include?
Plus removes ads, lifts the 50-reminder limit to unlimited, and activates cloud sync so your collection and journal are available across your devices. Data syncs automatically when you reconnect after being offline.
Can I use the app offline?
Yes. All reminders, journal entries, and notification schedules are stored locally. You can add reminders, write journal reflections, and receive push notifications (which are scheduled on-device) without an internet connection. The Community tab requires a network connection since it reads from a remote database.
Is my data private?
Yes. Your reminders and journal entries are your own and are never used for anything beyond running your account. Community submissions you make are publicly visible to other users by design. See our Privacy & Security page for full details.
