Getting Started with Scrabble Trainer
Scrabble Trainer is a cross-platform mobile training companion (iOS, Android, Web) that helps Scrabble players improve their vocabulary through structured drilling and spaced repetition. Whether you play casually with family and keep losing to someone who knows all the two-letter words, or you're preparing for a club tournament and need to systematically close gaps in your bingo knowledge — the app drills you on exactly the words you need, prioritizing the ones you struggle with.
What the App Does
- Word categories: 2-letter words, 3-letter words, Q-without-U words, vowel dumps, hooks, and 7-letter bingos — 5,000+ words at launch
- Two drill modes: Recognition (see a word, tap Valid or Invalid) and Recall (see scrambled letters, type valid words — essential for bingo training)
- Spaced repetition: SM-2 algorithm prioritizes words you've gotten wrong, so hard words come back more often and mastered words fade into the background
- Progress tracking: Per-category mastery percentages, accuracy trends, daily streak counter, and per-word drill history so you can see exactly which words you keep missing
- Daily study reminders: Local notifications to help you maintain your streak — configurable time and contextual text (words due, streak status)
First Launch Steps
- Open the app — no account required. An anonymous session starts silently and you land on a welcome screen.
- Take the skill assessment — a 10-word quiz tests your recognition of common Scrabble words. Based on your result (beginner, intermediate, or advanced), the app recommends a starting category. The quiz takes under 90 seconds. If you already know what you want to study, tap "Skip Assessment" — you can choose any category manually.
- Start your first drill — tap "Start Drilling" on the recommended category (or pick your own). For recognition drills, tap Valid or Invalid for each word. For recall drills (bingos and Q-without-U), type valid words from the scrambled rack. You'll see immediate correct/incorrect feedback after each answer.
- Check your progress — after your first session, visit the Progress tab to see your session summary, accuracy, and streak start.
- Enable study reminders — go to Settings and toggle Study Reminders on. Set your preferred time; the app will send a daily notification with context like "15 words due for review — keep your 5-day streak alive!"

Drill Modes Explained
Recognition — A word appears on screen. Tap "Valid" if it's a legal Scrabble word, "Invalid" if it isn't. Immediate feedback shows whether you were right, with a brief context note for each word. Best for 2-letter, 3-letter, hooks, and vowel dumps.
Recall — A scrambled letter rack appears. Type valid words you can form from those letters. The app shows all valid solutions after you answer. Best for bingos (7-letter words) and Q-without-U, where competitive players need to know every valid combination.
Free vs. Premium
Free (ad-supported): Full access to all word categories, both drill modes, spaced repetition, progress tracking, and streaks. Works completely offline. Banner ads appear on the Study and Progress screens (not during active drills). Interstitial ads appear between sessions (frequency-capped — not after every session).
Ad-free (one-time purchase): Removes all ads permanently. Requires creating an account.
Basic Subscription (monthly or annual): Ad removal plus cloud sync — your drill history, mastery percentages, and session data sync across all your devices. Essential if you study on both a phone and a tablet, or want your progress available in any browser.
Creating an Account
You don't need an account to start drilling. When you want to remove ads or sync progress across devices, the app will walk you through account creation using Google, Apple, or a magic link. Your existing drill history transfers seamlessly — nothing is lost when you link your identity.
