How to Take the Skill Assessment Quiz
Ray taps "Start Assessment" on the welcome screen, answers 10 word prompts in under 90 seconds, and lands on the Study tab with 2-letter words highlighted as his recommended starting category. The assessment captures where he is so the app can direct him toward the most impactful words first.
Steps
-
Open the app for the first time — you see a welcome screen that explains the app in 1-2 sentences and presents two options: "Start Assessment" and "Skip."
-
Tap "Start Assessment."
-
Answer 10 words — each word appears one at a time. Tap "Valid" if it's a legal Scrabble word, "Invalid" if it isn't. There's no time pressure.
-
See your result — after 10 words, the app shows your assessment result:
- Beginner — recommends starting with 2-letter words
- Intermediate — recommends 3-letter words or hooks
- Advanced — recommends bingos or Q-without-U
-
Tap "Start Drilling" — you land on the Study tab with your recommended category highlighted and ready to start.
Skipping the Assessment
Tap "Skip" on the welcome screen if you already know what you want to study. The app defaults to beginner recommendations and shows the full category list. You can navigate to any category directly.
Retaking the Assessment
The assessment result is stored locally. To retake it, go to Settings → Retake Assessment. This replaces your previous recommendation (it does not affect your drill history or mastery data).
Expected Outcome
- Assessment completes in under 90 seconds
- The app recommends a starting category based on your result
- You land on the Study tab ready to drill
- Your recommended category is highlighted in the category list
Tips
- Answer based on what you know right now — don't look up words. The point is to calibrate the app to your current level, not to pass a test.
- Lina skips the assessment entirely because she already knows exactly what she wants: Q-without-U words. If you're an experienced player with a specific gap to fill, skip the quiz and go straight to your category.
