Troubleshooting
Sign-In and Account Issues
I can't sign in with Google or Apple
- Make sure your device has an active internet connection
- Confirm you're using the same Google or Apple account you registered with
- For Apple Sign-In: check that Hide My Email is not blocking the account — go to Settings > [Your Name] > Password & Security > Apps Using Apple ID and verify Sizzle is listed
- Force-close the app and try again
- If the issue persists, try signing in with the other method (Google if you tried Apple, or vice versa)
I signed in but my recipes are gone
Sizzle stores recipes locally by default. If you're on a new device and didn't have Plus or Pro cloud sync active before, your recipes were not backed up. Possible causes:
- You were on the free tier (no cloud sync) — recipes live only on the original device
- You signed in with a different account than the one you used previously — check Profile to confirm which account is active
If you're a Plus or Pro subscriber and recipes are missing after signing in, pull down on the Recipes screen to force a manual sync.
I upgraded my anonymous account and my recipes are missing
The account linking process (anonymous session → real account) should preserve all local data. If you see an empty collection after linking:
- Check the Profile tab to confirm you're signed into the correct account
- Try force-closing the app and relaunching — the data may still be syncing
- Contact support via Profile > Help > Report a Problem with your account email
Recipe Import Issues
A URL import failed
- Check your internet connection — URL import requires network access
- Try copying the URL fresh from your browser (avoid shortened URLs when possible)
- Some websites block automated scraping; if the import fails twice, use Enter Manually instead
- If the import succeeds but some fields are wrong (e.g., missing photo, incorrect ingredient quantities), tap Edit on the recipe to fix them
Imported ingredients look wrong or incomplete
JSON-LD parsing is automatic and handles most major recipe sites. For sites without structured data, the SIPS backend parser does its best, but complex formatting can cause errors. After import, always review the preview screen before tapping Save. You can edit any field — ingredients, steps, servings — from the recipe detail view by tapping the edit (pencil) icon.
Recipe photos are not loading
Photos are fetched from the original source URL during import and cached locally. If a photo doesn't load:
- Check your internet connection during import (needed for the initial photo fetch)
- If the original source site is down or the photo URL has changed, add a custom photo via the recipe edit screen — tap the photo area and choose from your camera or gallery
Dinner Spinner Issues
The Spinner won't let me spin
The Spinner requires a minimum of 3 recipes in your collection. If you have fewer than 3, the Spinner shows a prompt to import more. If you have 3+ recipes but the Spinner still won't activate, check whether your active filters are too narrow — if no recipes match the current filter, the wheel can't populate. Open the filter sheet and try clearing your filters.
The Spinner keeps picking the same recipe
The Spinner randomly samples up to 20 recipes from your filtered collection. If your collection is small or your filters are narrow, the same recipes will appear frequently. To increase variety: import more recipes, expand your filter criteria, or remove filters entirely.
Shopping List Issues
Ingredient quantities aren't combining correctly
Ingredient combining works best when ingredients are imported with structured quantities (number + unit + name). Manually entered ingredients and free-form text strings may not combine automatically. If combining fails, you can manually edit quantities on the shopping list by tapping any item.
My shopping list disappeared
Shopping lists are stored locally in Drift (SQLite) and persist across sessions. If a list appears missing:
- Check that you're on the correct list — use the list selector at the top of the Shopping tab
- If you recently reinstalled the app on the same device, local data may have been cleared by the OS; Plus/Pro subscribers can restore from cloud sync
Sync Issues (Plus and Pro)
My recipes aren't syncing across devices
- Confirm both devices are signed into the same Plus or Pro account
- Check your internet connection on both devices
- On the out-of-sync device, go to Profile > Sync and tap Sync Now
- Sync triggers automatically on app open, after recipe saves, and every 5 minutes when the app is active — wait a moment after making changes before checking the other device
I canceled my subscription — what happens to my data?
When a Plus or Pro subscription expires, the tier downgrades to free. Your cloud-synced recipes remain accessible on the device you're currently using. No data is deleted. If you resubscribe, sync resumes from where you left off.
Subscription and Purchase Issues
I purchased Plus/Pro but the app still shows ads
- Force-close and reopen the app — subscription status checks on launch
- Go to Profile > Subscription and tap Restore Purchases
- Make sure you're signed into the same Apple ID or Google account used for the purchase
- If the issue persists after restoring, contact support with your receipt
I want to cancel my subscription
Subscriptions are managed through the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android), not through Sizzle directly:
- iOS: Settings > [Your Name] > Subscriptions
- Android: Google Play app > Profile icon > Payments & subscriptions
Still Need Help?
Open the app, go to Profile > Help, and tap Report a Problem. Include your device model, OS version, and a description of the issue. For subscription or billing questions, include your account email.
