Troubleshooting

Sign-In and Account Issues

I can't find a sign-in screen

Bucket List uses anonymous-first authentication — there is no login screen on first launch. To sign in, go to Settings and look for the sign-in option. You can sign in with Google, Apple, or a magic link sent to your email. Signing in is optional for on-device use, but required if you want to purchase ad-free, subscribe for sync, or access your data on another device.

I signed in but my bucket list items are missing

This usually means you signed in with a different account. Check the email shown in Settings to confirm you're using the right account. If you had an anonymous session (no account) on your previous device with no sync enabled, your data was local-only and cannot be recovered — anonymous data does not transfer to a new account automatically.

Account creation failed during my purchase or upgrade flow

If the sign-in window closed without completing (network drop or you cancelled), the purchase did not go through and no charge occurred. Your anonymous session and all your items are preserved exactly as they were. Tap "Try Again" once your connection is stable. If the issue repeats, check that your Google or Apple account is set up correctly on your device.

Data and Sync Issues

All my items disappeared after reinstalling the app

Items for Free (Tier A) and Ad-Free (Tier B) users are stored locally only. Reinstalling clears local storage. This data cannot be recovered without a Tier C (Subscription) account with cloud sync previously enabled. Going forward, subscribing to Tier C ensures your data is backed up to the cloud and will restore after any reinstall.

My items aren't syncing to my second device

Cloud sync is a Tier C subscription feature. Verify that: (1) you have an active Tier C subscription, (2) you are signed in with the same account on both devices, and (3) both devices have internet connectivity. The sync status indicator on the main screen shows "synced," "syncing," "pending changes," or "sync error." If it shows "sync error," sign out and sign back in to reset the sync session.

Sync is stuck on "pending changes"

Pending changes sync automatically when connectivity is available and when the app comes to the foreground. If it has been stuck for more than a few minutes with a good connection, try signing out from Settings and signing back in. This resets the sync session without losing any local data.

I see duplicate items after syncing between devices

Duplicates can occur if the same item was created on two devices before sync ran. This is a conflict that last-write-wins conflict resolution may not always catch. To resolve: delete the duplicate (a confirmation dialog will ask you to confirm), then verify the remaining item has all the latest edits. Going forward, ensure sync completes on one device before creating items on the other.

Offline Mode

The app says I'm offline but I have internet

The offline indicator appears when the app cannot reach the sync server — this can happen with captive portals, slow cellular, or VPNs even when your device shows a connection. All on-device features (creating items, editing, checking off sub-tasks) work fully without a server connection. Sync resumes automatically when the server is reachable.

My sub-task edits aren't being saved

Sub-tasks are saved to the local database immediately on all tiers. If edits don't appear to persist, check that your device has available storage — a full device can prevent SQLite writes. Ensure you're tapping the save or confirm button after editing (inline edits may require a tap elsewhere to commit). If the issue continues, restart the app and check again.

Item and Feature Issues

I completed an item but the confetti animation didn't play

The confetti animation requires a brief moment to render. If you changed the status to Completed very quickly or while the app was in a low-memory state, it may not have triggered. You can still write or access your reflection by opening the completed item — the reflection form is always accessible on completed items regardless of whether the animation played.

I can't reorder sub-tasks on my device

Sub-task reordering uses drag-and-drop. If drag-and-drop is difficult on your device (for example, due to reduced dexterity settings), try using a longer press to initiate the drag. If that doesn't work reliably, the item detail view also provides up/down ordering alternatives. Go to Settings → Accessibility on your device to confirm large touch targets are enabled for easier interaction.

My target date reminders aren't arriving

Push notification reminders are a Tier C subscription feature. First verify you have an active subscription and notifications are enabled in Settings → Notifications. Then check your device's system settings (iOS: Settings → Bucket List → Notifications; Android: Settings → Apps → Bucket List → Notifications) to confirm the app has notification permission. The lead time for reminders is configurable — check Settings → Notifications for the configured advance notice (default: 7 days before target date).

The search bar isn't finding items I know exist

The search bar queries item titles, descriptions, tags, sub-task titles, and reflection text. It does not search budget line item labels. Ensure you're searching the right term — search is case-insensitive. If the item was created offline on another device and sync hasn't completed, it may not appear in search results on the current device yet.

Subscription and Billing

How do I restore my ad-free purchase after reinstalling?

Go to Settings and tap Restore Purchases. The app checks your App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android) account for your original non-consumable purchase and restores Tier B ad-free status. Ensure you're signed into the same App Store or Google Play account used for the original purchase.

I subscribed to Tier C but ads are still showing

After subscribing, pull down to refresh the app to force a subscription status check. If ads persist, sign out from Settings and sign back in with the subscribed account. If you subscribed through the App Store or Play Store and the subscription is active there, tap "Restore Purchases" in Settings to re-verify.

How do I manage or cancel my subscription?

Bucket List subscriptions are managed by Apple (iOS) or Google (Android). To cancel: on iOS, go to Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions → Bucket List. On Android, go to Google Play → Subscriptions → Bucket List. Cancelling stops the subscription from renewing at the end of the current billing period — you keep Tier C access until that date.

Contacting Support

Go to Settings and tap Report a Bug. Include your device model, OS version (iOS/Android version), and a description of what you were doing when the issue occurred. For subscription billing issues, contact Apple Support or Google Play Support directly — Edgeless Media does not process those payments.
