How to Browse the Lighthouse Directory
Elena, a meticulous lighthouse collector with 142 visits across 7 countries, always starts her sessions on the Explore tab. She scans systematically — checking community ratings, looking for gaps in her visited list, and researching regions for upcoming trips. This guide shows how to get the most out of the directory.
What You Need
- Lighthouses installed and open
- A network connection for the first load (data caches locally for offline browsing)
Steps
-
Open the Explore tab (the first tab with the compass icon). The directory loads with all 500+ lighthouses.
-
Scroll through the list. Each row shows:
- A thumbnail photo
- The lighthouse name
- Country and region
- Aggregate community star rating (e.g., 4.3 stars)
- A visited checkmark if you have logged this lighthouse
- A bookmark icon if it is on your bucket list
-
Tap any lighthouse to open its detail screen. The detail screen shows the full lighthouse profile including the swipeable photo gallery, historical notes, visiting info, GPS coordinates, and more.
-
Navigate back by tapping the back arrow to return to the directory.
What the Detail Screen Contains
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Photo gallery | Swipeable photos of the lighthouse |
| Name and region | Lighthouse name, country, and state/region |
| Description | Multi-paragraph description and history |
| Status | Active or decommissioned |
| Construction year | When the lighthouse was built |
| Height | Height of the structure |
| Lighthouse type | Architectural type classification |
| Light characteristics | Flash pattern, color, and range |
| Visiting info | Hours, accessibility, entry fees |
| Nearby amenities | Parking, facilities, nearby services |
| Official website | Link that opens in your browser |
| GPS coordinates | Precise location for navigation |
Expected Outcome
You can scroll the directory, tap any lighthouse to view its full profile, and navigate back. Photos load progressively with placeholders while loading. All 500+ lighthouses are listed.
Tips
- If you have already visited a lighthouse, it shows a checkmark in the directory list so you can easily skip those while browsing for new ones.
- Use the search and filter features (Explore tab search bar) to narrow the directory to specific countries, regions, or visit status.
