How to Complete a Full Daily Session

Lucinda is a grant writer who schedules her vocabulary session for 7:15 AM every morning — before email, before anything else. She does her review queue first, then learns the new cluster. Total time: about 12 minutes. Her 34-day streak reflects this discipline.

  1. Open the app — land on the Today tab
  2. Check your review queue count (words due for spaced repetition today)
  3. Tap the review queue to start your review session first
  4. After review, return to the Today tab
  5. Tap the suggested cluster card to learn new words
  6. Complete the cluster exercises and tap Complete Cluster

Doing review before new content clears overdue words first and keeps your spaced repetition schedule on track.

Completing a Review Session

  1. Tap the review queue — a session opens with up to 10 words due (or all due, whichever is fewer)
  2. Each word appears in a sentence context
  3. Rate your recall:
    • Again — I forgot or got it wrong; reschedule to tomorrow
    • Hard — I struggled; shorter interval
    • Good — I remembered; standard interval extension
    • Easy — I knew it instantly; significant interval extension
  4. Rate honestly — the SM-2 algorithm adapts to your actual recall, not your confidence
  5. After 10 words, the session ends; any remaining due words stay in the queue for later

Keiko uses "Again" freely — her 78% recall accuracy reflects genuine self-assessment. She rates honestly because she knows the algorithm adapts: words she rates "Again" come back tomorrow, and eventually become solid.

Learning a New Cluster

  1. After review, tap the suggested cluster card on the Today tab
  2. Read through the words, usage examples, and nuance notes
  3. Complete the exercises
  4. Tap Complete Cluster

The Quick Drill Alternative

If you're short on time, tap the Quick Drill card for a 3-minute rapid-fire session mixing all exercise types. Finishing a Quick Drill counts toward your daily streak. It's designed for days when you have only a few minutes — better than skipping.

Expected Outcome

Your review queue count decreases, your streak increments, and new words enter your spaced repetition schedule. A typical full session (review + new cluster) takes 8–15 minutes.

Tips

  • If your review queue is large (many words due at once), work through it in batches — the default session size is 10 words
  • Lucinda's pattern: reviews first, new cluster second, Quick Drill only on travel days when she's squeezed for time
  • Streak resets at midnight local time — make sure you complete at least one session before then each day
  • Your streak increments whether you do review, a new cluster, or just a Quick Drill — any of the three counts
