How to Plan a Goal with Sub-Tasks
Who this is for: Anyone who has an item they're ready to plan in detail.
Joaquin, a meticulous architect, wants to break "Build a weekend cabin" into specific steps — permits, land, plans, quotes, and financing — so it stops being a vague dream and becomes an actual project.
Steps
- Open the item you want to plan (e.g., "Build a weekend cabin").
- Navigate to the sub-tasks section in the item detail view.
- Tap "Add Sub-Task."
- Enter the sub-task title (e.g., "Research county building permits"). Add optional notes for context.
- Tap Save. The sub-task appears in the list.
- Repeat for each step (e.g., "Find suitable land parcels," "Get architectural plans drawn," "Get contractor quotes," "Apply for construction loan").
- Check off a sub-task when you complete it — tap the checkbox next to the sub-task title.
- Watch the progress update. The item detail shows "1 of 5 steps." The item card in the list view shows a progress bar filling as sub-tasks are completed.
Expected Outcome
Your item has a structured step-by-step plan. The progress bar in the list view gives you an at-a-glance sense of how far along you are. Each sub-task you check off is a small win that drives momentum.
Tips
- Sub-tasks can be reordered via drag-and-drop — press and hold a sub-task to drag it to a new position.
- You can add notes to any sub-task by tapping it and expanding the notes field.
- Deleting a sub-task shows a confirmation dialog to prevent accidental removals.
- Sub-tasks sync offline like their parent item — you can check them off without a connection and they'll sync later (Tier C).
