How to Add a Song and Track it Through Your Process
Rafael adds "Autumn Leaves Reimagined" to his Singer-Songwriter Pipeline and moves it through the first two stages in his evening logging session. Each transition captures a timestamp automatically — no manual time entry required.
Prerequisites
You need at least one process defined. If you haven't created one yet, see How to Import a Process Template or How to Create a Custom Process.
Steps
Adding the Song
-
Go to the Tracking tab (third tab in the bottom navigation).
-
Tap "Add Item" — a creation form opens.
-
Enter a name (required, max 80 characters) — e.g., "Autumn Leaves Reimagined."
-
Select type — choose "Song" or "Album." (For albums that group multiple songs, see How to Group Songs into an Album.)
-
Assign to a process — select the process you want to track this song through. The song starts at stage 1 of that process.
-
Tap Save — the song appears on the Tracking tab showing its name, assigned process, current stage (stage 1), and time in current stage.
Moving Through Stages
-
Open the song — tap its card on the Tracking tab to open the item detail screen.
-
Tap "Move to Next Stage" — a transition form appears with an optional note field (max 500 characters).
-
Add a note (optional) — capture what happened: "Finally found the chord progression — switching from C major to A minor gave it the darker tone I wanted." Notes appear in the item's timeline.
-
Confirm — the stage transition saves with an automatic timestamp. The item detail updates to show the new current stage and the stage history.
-
Repeat — move through stages as you complete each phase of your work. You can move multiple stages in one session if you've completed that much work.
Reading the Timeline
The item detail screen shows a full timeline of every stage transition with:
- The stage you moved from and to
- The date and time of the transition (captured automatically)
- Elapsed time in that stage
- Any note you added
This timeline becomes the source data for timing insights on your Dashboard once you have 3+ completed items.
Expected Outcome
After adding a song and making at least one stage transition:
- The Tracking tab shows the song at its current stage
- The item detail shows the stage history with timestamps
- The Dashboard quick stats update (items in progress count increments)
Next Step
After completing the final stage, the item moves to the "Completed" section of the Tracking tab. Once you have 3 or more completed items, timing insights appear on your Dashboard. See How to View Bottleneck Analysis.
