How to Check the Tile Bag Distribution Mid-Game
Derek, a competitive player, always wants to know which high-value letters are still in the bag before making a strategic play. The tile bag viewer in Big Bad Words shows exactly how many of each letter remain so you can plan your moves with full information.
When to Use This
Knowing the tile bag distribution helps you:
- Decide whether to hold a blank tile or play it now
- Estimate the odds of drawing a specific letter you need
- Know when high-value tiles (Q, Z, X, J) are gone and stop playing around them
- Plan your endgame — if the bag is nearly empty, track exactly what your opponent might draw
How to View the Tile Bag Distribution
- During your turn, locate the letters remaining counter near the tile bag icon in the game header. This number shows the total tiles left to draw.
- Tap the tile bag icon (or the letters-remaining counter) to open the Tile Bag Viewer.
- The viewer shows a grid with every letter in the alphabet plus blank tiles. Each cell displays:
- The letter
- Its point value
- How many of that letter remain in the bag
- Letters that are fully depleted are shown greyed out with a count of 0 so you can see at a glance what's gone.
- Tap anywhere outside the viewer (or tap the close button) to dismiss it and return to your turn.
Tile Counts Reference
The standard Big Bad Words tile set follows balanced English-letter distribution. High-value letters start with low counts:
| Letter | Starting Count | Points |
|---|---|---|
| Q, Z | 1 each | 10 pts |
| J, X | 1 each | 8 pts |
| K | 1 | 5 pts |
| Blank | 2 | 0 pts |
| E, A, I, O | 9–12 each | 1 pt |
When you play a custom board size, tile counts scale proportionally.
Accessibility Note
If you use TalkBack, the tile bag viewer announces each letter with its count and point value when you swipe through the grid cells. For example: "Letter Q, 10 points, 1 remaining."
