How to Get Started on First Launch

Who this is for: Anyone launching Big Bad Words for the first time.

Sam, a casual player who commutes by bus and just wants to tap "Play" and go, downloaded the app and wants to be in a game within a minute.

Steps​

  1. Open the app. Two welcome screens appear briefly explaining the app's key differentiators (configurable board, custom word lists, play your way).
  2. Tap "Next" on the first screen or "Skip" to go straight to the Play tab.
  3. Choose your play mode on the second screen: "Solo vs AI" or "Pass & Play."
  4. Land on the game setup screen. Defaults are pre-filled: 15×15 board, 7 tiles, standard bonus squares, Easy AI.
  5. Tap "Start Game" to begin playing immediately.

Expected Outcome​

You are on the game setup screen within 30 seconds of first launching the app. An anonymous session was created automatically — no account or sign-in required.

Notes​

  • The welcome screens only appear on first launch.
  • The onboarding flag is stored locally — reinstalling the app resets it and shows the welcome screens again.
  • If you want to replay the welcome screens later, go to Settings and look for "Replay Onboarding."
