How to Play Online Multiplayer (Plus)

Who this is for: Plus subscribers who want to play with friends who are not in the same physical location.

Priya, a competitive player who plays online 2–3 times per week, wants to set up a real-time game with a friend and share an invite link.

Steps

  1. Tap "New Game" on the Play tab.
  2. Select "Online Game." This option is available to Plus and Pro subscribers.
  3. Configure your game — choose board size, word list, turn timer, and any mechanics you want.
  4. Tap "Create Game." A shareable invite link is generated.
  5. Send the invite link to your friend via messaging app, email, or wherever is convenient.
  6. Your friend opens the link. If they have the app installed, the link opens directly to the game lobby. If not, they're directed to the Play Store first.
  7. Both players appear in the lobby. You see each other's names.
  8. Tap "Start Game." Both players see the same board in real-time. Tile placements propagate instantly — your friend sees your tiles appear as you place them.
  9. Play through turns — each player's hand is private, visible only to themselves. A 2-minute turn timer is enforced (configurable in game setup).
  10. Game completes. Both players see the final results simultaneously.

Expected Outcome

Real-time online gameplay with low-latency move propagation. Both players see the same board state at all times.

Notes

  • Both players need an internet connection for online play.
  • If a connection drops mid-game, the board state is preserved on the server. The game resumes when connectivity returns.
  • The invite link expires after the game starts or after a reasonable idle period.
  • Online game results appear in the History tab for both players after the game completes.
