Take the Quick Tutorial on First Launch

When Aisha first installs Big Bad Words and picks Pass & Play mode, she's offered a quick 3-turn guided game that teaches the core mechanics before she starts playing for real.

When the Tutorial Appears

The tutorial is offered once — on your very first launch, after you select your play mode on the welcome screen. It only shows if you haven't played a game before.

If you skip it, you can start a regular game immediately. The tutorial doesn't appear again.

What the Tutorial Covers

The tutorial runs a 3-turn guided game:

  1. Turn 1 — Place your first word. A prompt shows you the center star square and guides you through placing a word to start the game. The board highlights valid cells.
  2. Turn 2 — Use a bonus square. The guide points out a Double Word or Triple Letter square and shows how bonus squares multiply your score.
  3. Turn 3 — Exchange tiles. The guide walks you through selecting tiles to return to the bag and drawing replacements, explaining when this is useful.

After 3 turns: "You're ready! Want to start a real game?"

Starting Your First Real Game

Tap Start Game at the end of the tutorial to go directly to the full game setup screen with your play mode pre-selected (Pass & Play or Solo vs AI, whichever you chose on the welcome screen).

Skipping the Tutorial

On the welcome screen, tap Skip (or just ignore the tutorial prompt and tap Start Game) to go straight to game setup. The tutorial will not reappear.

Finding Help Later

If you need a refresher after the tutorial, this help site covers all mechanics in detail. See Getting Started with Big Bad Words for a full overview, or browse the how-to articles for specific features.
